The Dynamics of an Engineer

In the field of resistance welding cables, I have met a number of individuals who are engineers.  These are extremely intelligent individuals with an incredibly funny sense of humor who approach life and problems from a very different and interesting perspective.  Working in a predominantly male-dominated industry aroused my interest...here's what I found and let me know if I'm on track!

Engineers receive primarily a "technical" education, thus their ability to communicate is sometimes hampered by that.  Now, don't get me wrong here...an engineer is someone who must effectively communicate with people all day long, which they do very effectively, you just have to look at how they communicate, in their own way.  Engineers are far from "nerdy" with the generalized pop up vision of one with a "pocket protector" in their shirt pocket...they are bright, intelligent, well-dressed gentlemen!

Anyway, here we go with a summary of some of the personality traits you might find in an engineer:

Engineers are naturally curious and really like to discover how things work and solving problems.

Engineers use logic when examining ideas, develop theories and explanations.

An Engineer will likely not be one with attention deficit disorder...they have the ability to focus intently on a given subject.

An Engineer is a perfectionist, always searching for a better way to do things..more efficient, effective.

An Engineer might prefer organization and structure both in their personal and work life.

An Engineer is always up for a discussion or debate regarding their topic of current project.

They LOVE SCIENCE!

Appreciate and have respect for the intellect of others.

A wonderful and sometimes unique sense of humor abounds.  Take the recent Nobel Peace Prize Winner (from Russia, I believe, who used the name of a guinea pig in their project).

Very adept at solving the world's problems...pointing them out...explaining them....

Very dogmatic....appreciative of imagination and creativeness in other's to compliment their personality.  Their intense logic sometimes causes tunnel vision.

In the United States we have a week to celebrate just about anything...Mother's Day, Father's Day, Bosses Day, Administrative Assistant Day, Secretary's Day....I'm thinking it's about time we have.. Engineer's Day to celebrate all that they do to solve our most technical issues in the mechanical engineering field.   Each and every time I try and figure out a computer program that won't work, my DVD player on the fritz, a machining issue at work no one seems to know the answer to...I'm thinking to myself..where's an engineer when you need one!    So, if you're an engineer-type personality out there....we appreciate your quallities, your love of science and your ...sense of humor.  An engineer may not directly make the products you use every day, but I guarantee, their work has somehow contributed to the making of a machine or computer program that made this product, only better.
